Why Room Heater?
If you are reading this blogpost then most likely you are residing in the northern part of India.
The winters can get pretty bad in the northern states and a heater is pretty much a basic requirement for colder regions in the winters.
This is especially true if you have small kids or elders at home.
After all who wouldn’t like walking into a warm room after taking a bath or when you return from office.
I am fortunate enough to be able to afford a heater and I am thankful for it.
This blog post is an essentrial read for people who are looking to buy a room heater.

Best room heater brands in India
I am not a big brand person when it comes to clothes or anything else but I do pay a premium for b randed electronic items.
The reason is pretty simple, I come from Himachal which is a pretty cold place and I have used room heaters for 4 to 5 months at our home every winters.
I have had some very bad experiences with cheaper heaters and that is why I always prefer branded good quality heaters because a branded heater is much safer and will last you a long time.
Thus I have shortlisted the best brands in India and I am going to describe them in short here.
1. Orpat
Orpat has a decent range of room heaters. This range includes fan heaters, radiant heaters and oil filled radiators.
Orpat also has some great conventor heaters.
I own a orpat fan heater which does a decent job of heating the room in about seven to 10 minutes but it is a pretty basic machine which I basically bought because it was cheap.
It’s been working for 3 years now.
2. Bajaj
Bajaj is one of the most trusted and one of the oldest Indian electronics brand. My experience with Bajaj heaters has not been great but the company does have some top selling heater models across categories.
If you have had a good experience with bajaj products you can definitely consider buying a bajaj heater.
3. Usha
I was quite surprised seeing Usha room heaters on amazon because I never took Usha to be a heater company.
To my surprise Usha has a great range of heaters including convector, radiant and oil filled heaters.
Most of the Usha room heater models have excellent ratings and reviews.
4. Oreva
Oreva is an Indian company based in Kutch, Gujarat. The company is well known for being “World’s Largest Clock Manufacturing Company”. The Ajanta clocks is one of the householn names in India.
Oreva room heaters lack variety although they do produce some good quartz heater, element heater and fan heater.
5. Havells
Havells is my favourite and most trusted brand for home appliances such as oil heaters, room heaters, water purifiers and geysers.
I say this because I own two Havells products currently which have served me beautifully over the past 4 years.
I own a Havells oil heayer amd a havells geyser.
I would recommend a havells product without battinh an eyelid anyday of the week. The best part about Havells products is that the products look ad feel great. The aesthetics and design of havells products are one of the best in the market.
Havells has some great room heaters acroos different price points and types.
Havells heaters are expensive when compared to other room heaters but the quality will be top class and i can personally couch for it.
Infact Havells quality is export class and I don’t say it lightly.
6. Philips
Philips does not have a heater range.
7. Orient
Orient again is a trusted indian brand but I could not find any decent room heaters from Orient.
I did infact find a good oil filled heater from Orient but thats about it. I don’t think I would invest in an orient room heater beacuse I have better options.
8. V-Guard
V-Guard is another one of my favourite Indian brands. If there is a product that I would recommend after Havell’s It would be V-Guard.
Unfortunately there are not many great room heater models that I can recommend from V Guard.
The company does not seem to have paid a lot of attention to its room heater division.
Maybe the company will bring some new models and I will be able to write about it then.
9. Warmex
Warmex is an Indian company based in Hyderabad and it specialises in manufacturing heat equipments such as room heaters.
This company is a little gem that i am glad I found while researching for this blog post. I request you to check warmex room heaters and I promise you will be pleasantly surprised.
The company offers a great PTC fan heater and a tower heater.
10. Singer
Singer is another popular brand that is perhaps not best known for its heaters. I trust the brand because of my personal experiences with the company.
One of mycousin sisters have the Singer oil heater at their home and I quite like the model.
Singer room heaters offer variety, quality and the brand trust of Singer. I definitely recommend the singer room heaters.
Types of heaters
There are many types of heaetrs to choose from and an average buyer acn get confused if they don’t know their requirements.
This section will help you understand the different types of heaters and will allow you to shortlist the heater that suits your rquirement.
Each section below will contain a short description of the type of heater, the pros and cons of the type and a small comparison table of the top three models in the category.
Blower room heater
A blower heater is basically a heater with a fan. It gives out hot air and is used to heat a room instead of providing warmth to a single person.

Pros
- Blower heaters are very affordable, you can get a good model for about a thousand rupees.
- Portable and easy to carry: Blowers are lightweight and can be carried around easily
- Effectively warms up the room: an air blower warms up the complete room and not just thegeneral area of where the heater is present.
- Two heat settings mean you can choose your setting according to your needs
- Fan setting means you can use the blower heater as a personal fan in the summers
Cons
- The cheaper models of air blowers don’t have a good build quality
- Blowers have a wattage of 2000 watts which is more than some common radiant heaters. Blower heaters consume more power than normal radiant heaters.
- Some people feel suffocated in a room with a blower heater.

Oil filled room heater
Oil filled room heaters are my favourite type of heaters. I have written a detailed blog post on the topic which you can read here: The Best Oil Heaters For Winters

Pros
- Oil filled room heaters don’t reduce the oxygen or humidity in the room
- These heaters are a safe choice for a house with kids because the surface doesn’t get very hot unlike room heaters
- Oil heaters consume less electricity than some other models of room heaters.
- Oil heaters provide a cozy temperature all across the room to the point where you can be wearing a t-shirt inside a room whille it snows outside. These heaters are perfect for big rooms
- Oil based heaters have temperature control and auto cut modes which help in maintaining a steady temperature in the room without any risks. you acn leave these heaters on for the night and they will autocut after a while.
Cons
- Oil heaters are bulky and require space to store. Their wheels do come off but still you will need to dedicate a storage space for the oil heaters when not in use.
- Oil heaters are costly and not fit for people who are looking to buy a budget room heater. The starting models will cost around ten thousand rupees.
- Some people may lose patience with oil heaters because they do take their sweet time to heat up the room. Typically an oil heater will take around 10 to 15 minutes to start heating the room.
Comparison table of my recommendations
I own a Havell’s 9 fin oil heater so I migh sound biased when I say that Havell’s products are the best but given below is a short comparison of the best oil heater models in the market

Quartz room heater
What is it?
A quartz room heater, simply put, is a heat pump that provides heat to the area surrounding it. It has an electric resistance element (coil) in it which is heated up and then the heater blows the warm air around.

How does it work?
When plugged in, the heater will start to draw power from the socket. The element will heat up and create resistance; this heats up the wire which in turn creates heat. This heat is then radiated out of the heater and into the room.
Advantages of a Quartz Heater
There are a few key benefits to using a quartz room heater:
1. They’re Cost-Effective – Quartz room heaters are some of the most affordable types of heaters on the market. In addition, they use very little power, so you’ll see a decrease in your monthly utility bill.
2. They’re Portable – Quartz room heaters are lightweight and easy to move around, making them perfect for use in multiple rooms or even on vacation.
3. They’re Safe – Quartz room heaters have an automatic shut-off feature that keeps them from overheating, so you can rest easy knowing they’re safe to use around your family and pets.
4. They’re Flexible – There are three main types of quartz room heaters: panel, radiator, and tower. Each has its own benefits and downsides—panel heaters are great for vertical heating, while tower and radiator heaters work best in small rooms.
Cons
- The heating area is quite limited to the vicinity of the heater. It is generally suited for a couple of people sitting around it.
- The heater may not be safe with kids around. The outside surface though insulated could get hot in some models
- The room will not get heated easily.

Carbon heaters
A carbon heater is a type of room heater whose heating elements are made of carbon fibre.
A carbon heater will give softer radiant heat that can be better received by the skin. The Infrared heaters are test proven to heat the skin more efficiently and thus even at lower output a carbon heater feels more efficient.

Pros
- Carbon heaters are infrared heaters. The heating is immediate as soon as they are switched on becasue Carbon has a key property of instant heating.
- Radiant heat only warms the surface it touches so you will feel the warmth evn with low outputs of the heater.
- Heat loss from electricity to thermal is minimal so you get big power savings with a carbon heater.
- Carbon heaters are perfect outdoor heaters.
- Carbon heaters do not absorb the oxygen and moisture in the air, so there is no dry air.
- Some companies claim that Infrared rays emitted by carbon heaters can promote blood circulation, and enhancing the immunity of human body although I don’t condone the statement.
Cons
- The carbon heaters are a little expensive as compared to other radiant heaters.
- The rods may get hot so constant human supervision is required around the carbon heater.
- The carbon fiber quartz tube are quite fragile and may break if the heater falls down.

Halogen room heater
Halogen room heaters are one of the popular categories of heaters acroos India but I personally don’t like them. You need to sit very close to the heater to experience some warmth and the halogen heater does not really warm up the room properly.

Pros
- Halogen heaters do not become very hot so they are safe to use at home
- Inexpensive: A halogen heater is an inexpensive heater and you can get one for around 1400 or 1500 rupees easily.
Cons
- The heating radius is very small and it will not heat up the room
- The build quality is often not very solid and leaves a lot to be desired
- Expensive to run compared to other heaters such as radiant heaters.
- Halogen heaters release chemicals which may be harmful for asthmatic or allergy-prone individuals.

Pillar heaters
Pillar heaters are actually radiant heaters in the shape of a heater so there is no differenec except the shape of the heater.
Pillar heaters are also more expensive than the radiant heaters but they also offer a bigger heating radius and can effectively warm a room in a few minutes.

Radiant room heater
Radiant room heaters are the most common types of heaters available in India. I have used a radiant heater for as long as I can remember.
These heaters are inexpensive, effective and long lasting.
You have got to have atleast one in your home for winters. Even if it is for ceremonial purposes only.
After all is it really winters if you have not used a radiant heater in your house.

Pros
- Cheap and effective
- Conversation blossom around a heater so that’s an added bonus
- Will keep you and the room warm for as long as it is switched on
- With proper care these heaters will last you a long time
- Portable so you can take it anywhere
Cons
- The heating element and the reflector will get very hot so adult supervision is always required
- These heaters consume a lot of power and are not very efficient. For example an oil heater and a radiant heater both have a 2000 W capacity but an oil heater heats up the entire room but a radiant heater has a very small heating radius
- The radiant heater may not be suitable for areas with a voltage fluctuation or low voltage problem

Where to buy a room heater?
You can buy a room heater irn two ways: offline or online.
You will find that the range of room heater amazon is quite astounding. You will also find that you will get the best price for room heaters on amazon.
I recommend that you buy your room heater online because of five reasons:
- You can choose from a wide variety of brands and designs, something that you will not get in a physical store
- You will get the best price
- you can return the product if you dont like it without any quaestions being asked. A physical store in many cases refuses to take the product back.
- You can buy the prodcut on easy emi’s if you don’t have the money upfront
- You can choose at your own pace without any pressure from pushy salesmen
My recommendation
I recommend the Havells room heaters because I am already using the Havells oil filled heater and I am a 100% satisfied with it.
I also recommend that you check out the warmex heaters because I found their room heater models to be very good quality and value for money.
